20 million euros for the Turkish gas market

In November 2008, Messer laid the foundation stone for an independent gas supply for its customers in Turkey. To this end, 20 million euros has been invested in an air separation plant, which is due to go into operation in the middle of 2009. The company has also invested in a modern filling plant for gas cylinders as well as a new administration building. The plant, which has state-of-the-art energy efficiency, is being built in the middle of Turkey’s industrial centre approximately 90 kilometres east of Istanbul. Messer’s customer base in Turkey is primarily made up of shipyards, car manufacturers and hospitals. However, the new air separation plant will also produce high-purity medical oxygen for patients with respiratory diseases. Messer Aligaz Sanayi Gazlari AS was founded in 1974 and today employs around 70 staff at two locations in Istanbul, as well in Manisa and Bursa. In Istanbul, the company produces acetylene for cutting and welding as well as nitrous oxide for medical purposes. Air gases and welding gas mixtures are filled at the same location. With its distribution centre in Bursa, Messer Aligaz is represented right at the heart of the Turkish automotive industry.

Audited medical gases in Spain

In November 2008, Messer Ibérica de Gases S.A.’s new air separation plant in the Spanish city of El Morell’s industrial estate was successfully audited by the Spanish health authorities. This means that it is authorised to produce medical gases, just like the plants in Vilaseca (Tarragona).

New filling plant in Italy

In November 2008, Messer Italia S.p.A. and Messer Medical S.r.l.’s new filling plant and office complex were opened in Settimo Torinese, Italy. A total of 45 employees relocated from the old location in Collegno to Settimo Torinese.

Assembly preparations in Romania

The main components of the air separation plant for TMK in Resita, Romania, arrived on the construction site and were prepared for assembly. When the air separation plant goes into operation in 2009, Messer will have its own production plant in Romania for the first time. The air separator will supply oxygen, nitrogen and argon for local manufacturers as well as medical oxygen for hospitals and the home care of patients.
