January

Good start to the year: Messer Medical in Italy

On 1 January, 2008, Messer Medical S.r.l., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Messer Italia S.p.A. based in Settimo Torinese, Italy, commenced operations on the Italian market. With six distribution and production sites in Settimo, Bari, Brugine, Naples, Rome and the Calabria region, Messer Medical has an extensive distribution network, which will enable it to grow in the future. 30 employees are developing the market for the use of oxygen and medical equipment in the home care sector.

The new company also offers a new concept with integrated patient services. It covers almost every area, such as oxygen for respiration, home care, patient monitoring, rehabilitation and artificial nourishment. To this end, all the relevant licences, permits and authorisations were transferred from Messer Italia to the new company.

Partner in Bosnia-Herzegovina: steel and oxygen

At the beginning of 2008, Messer BH Gas d.o.o. commenced operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, alongside the companies Messer Sarajevo Plin d.o.o. and Messer Mostar Plin d.o.o. The new company, which was founded in September 2007, aims to build and operate new air separation plants. The collaboration between Messer and ArcelorMittal Steel in Zenica (former BH Steel) began back in 2005, when Messer took over the job of supplying the steelworks with oxygen in tankers from Serbia and Croatia. In the summer of 2007, a contract worth 20 million euros was signed, followed immediately by construction work on the new plant. In the middle of January 2008, the old air separation plant in Zenica, modernised by Messer, was put into operation for the time being.
