Before the big freeze: topping-out ceremony in Siegen

On 10 December 2008, Messer held a topping-out ceremony for its air separation plant on the site of Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH in Siegen, Germany. The basic structure of the control room building, machine hall and pump house was completed right on schedule. It was also possible to lay the foundations for all the machines and tanks before the onset of winter. The air separation plant is due to be completed on schedule in September 2009, and will begin supplying nitrogen and oxygen to Deutsche Edelstahlwerke in October 2009.

Very good start in Germany

Messer only resumed selling its products in the German market at the beginning of May, and it clinched more than 75 contracts for the supply of liquid gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and argon by the end of 2008. In the period to December, the young German Messer subsidiary, Messer Industriegase GmbH, installed 50 gas storage tank facilities on customer sites. Since May 2008, Messer has managed to sign contracts with more than 150 new customers in Germany for cylinder gases with a total annual value of around two million euros. A comprehensive network of 16 sales partners in the states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia ensures reliability of supply to our customers.

Site purchase perfect for Messer’s corporate HQ

In December 2008, the Messer family moved a step closer to the construction of the new corporate headquarters in Bad Soden: they signed the relevant purchase and exchange agreements with the Bad Soden municipal authorities. Messer plans to start construction of a multi-storey office complex and an events centre by the end of 2009 at the latest, with a view to moving the company’s headquarters from Sulzbach in the Taunus region to the neighbouring municipality after a construction period of about one year. Our new address in Bad Soden will be: Am Messer-Platz 1. To begin with, up to 130 employees from the central business functions of the German companies in the Messer World will work for Messer in Bad Soden.

Production facility in Western France

After completing a protracted approval process, there is now intense activity in Brittany: in order to be able to build the foundations for the process plant, machine room, tanks and control room as well as the underground cooling water pipes, it was necessary to prepare the site in question properly. The planned production facility will go into operation by the end of 2009. It will be built as part of a joint venture between Messer and Linde to supply each company’s customer base in Brittany and the adjacent regions.
